Lights Out for World War 1

The Lights Out campaign is to commemorate the centenary of the start of Britain's Great War. On the 4 August 2014  people throughout the country turned out their lights between 10pm and 11pm. In Victoria Tower Gardens next to the Palace of Westminster they've set up Spectra to shine through the darkness.

100 years since Britain went to War of the world

Derby Pacifist accused of plotting to kill the Prime Minister

As the war raged throughout Europe antiwar sentiment began to worry the authorities back in Britain. Alice Wheeldon was using her shop in Derby to shelter men from conscription but her efforts were halted in the most public way possible. Follow the link to hear the radio package of the story:

Sheffield's Great War
